Summary of the Program's Assessment Plan | Generalist/Specialized Practice

 

All students are assessed using a minimum of two measures on their mastery of the nine competencies that comprise the Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards of the Council on Social Work Education and additional competencies added by the College of Social Work. Below is a summary of our assessment plan for both Generalist and Specialized courses within our program. Assessment Measure #1 is the Field Evaluation completed during semesters where students are completing their practicum. Assessment Measure #2 is the Generalist Outcome Assessment (GOA) for first year, basic courses. The Specialist Outcome Assessment (SOA) is then conducted during students’ specialized coursework.

When/where students are assessed:

During field placement courses at the end of each semester, Fall and Spring. Completed online in IPT. Paper copy offered if needed.

Outcome Measure Benchmark (minimum score indicative of achievement) for Competencies 1-9:

Students receive a score of 3 or better indicating at least average, strong, or exceptional performance on each item.

Competency Benchmark (percent of students the program expects to have achieved the minimum scores, inclusive of all measures) for Competencies 1-9:

80% of students will demonstrate competence by meeting or exceeding the outcome measure benchmark of 3 or better.

Assessment Measure #2:    GOA/SOA COMPETENCY EVALUATION

When/where students are assessed:

Pretest is within two weeks of generalist/ specialist courses beginning and the posttest is within two weeks of courses ending, at the beginning and end of each academic year respectively. Completed via computer remotely or in computer lab. Paper copy offered if needed.

MSW Administrative Personnel

Outcome Measure Benchmark (minimum score indicative of achievement) for Competencies 1-9:

Students average at least 70% correct responses on questions related to each competency.

Competency Benchmark (percent of students the program expects to have achieved the minimum scores, inclusive of all measures) for Competencies 1-9:

80% of students will demonstrate competence by meeting or exceeding the outcome measure benchmark of 70%.

 

The following tables indicate the benchmark percentage for each competency.  The competency benchmark is the percent of students expected to have achieved both outcome measure benchmarks.  We first calculate the percentage of students achieving each outcome measure benchmark, then combine the percentage of both measures to calculate the percentage of students achieving each competency. The first table is an aggregate of all program options, followed by each program option offered here at the College of Social Work.
