Interprofessional Fellowship in Mental Health Program Overview
In addition to the regular MSW course of study, IPEP fellows will complete two elective courses, two interprofessional education seminars, an expert speaker series, and a 40-hour in-person coordinated field experience.
This course, taught within the Child Welfare sequence in the College of Social Work, provides information on trauma-informed systems and approaches, including macro perspective and skills. Students will learn the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to work in with children and families who have experienced trauma, including the unique impact of trauma on early childhood and interventions tailored specifically for infants, toddlers, and young children.
This course, taught in the Department of Education, covers the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part C early intervention, birth to three services and supports for infants and toddlers with or at risk of disabilities. Students will learn federal regulations and state rules regarding evaluation, assessment, intervention, and service coordination for young children with disabilities.
UU HSC 6201 Foundations of Interprofessional Education (1 credit) will provide students with a framework for deliberately working together with other health professionals to maintain a climate of mutual respect and shared values in today’s complex health care environment, with the common goal of improving patient outcomes (6201).
Students will engage in four learning opportunities where they will have an opportunity to listen and learn from experts in the field and to apply their learning in short post-event activities. These events will be focused on: Anti-Racism & Systemic Inequalities, Implementation Science, and Policy/Advocacy in Early Childhood Intervention systems. These events will be scheduled in advance and students will be required to attend.
Over the week of Spring Break of their second year of the fellowship training program, students will engage in 40- hours of in-person coordinated field experiences, which will include observations and engagement in a trauma-informed preschool and an early intervention home-visiting setting. Students will be required to attend in-person field experiences.
