Dr. Julia O’Connor will share the latest research and data-informed approaches to addressing dating and sexual violence on college campuses. It’s crucial to support survivors on their path to safety through safety planning, responding to disclosures, and assisting those who remain in violent relationships. These actions play a vital role in transforming campus culture around dating and sexual violence.

About Presenter

Julia O’Connor (she/her), PhD, MSW, MPH, is an assistant professor at the University of Utah in the College of Social Work. Her research focuses on sexual and domestic/dating violence prevention, namely, stopping violent behaviors before they occur, through exploring risk and protective factors for violence, bystander interventions, and those who perpetrate violence. Her broader research interests include assessing institutional and campus responses to violence, understanding the unique experiences of marginalized survivors of violence, and exploring the lasting impacts on survivors. Dr. O’Connor’s research is informed by her professional background as a case manager, women’s advocate, and felony-level legal advocate, providing direct support to survivors of sexual and domestic violence.
